Paramount Slammed Over Oliver Stone-9/11 Announcement
Paramount Pictures is taking heat due to its announcing of the new Oliver Stone-9/11 project within 24 hours of the London bombings.
Stone's movie will star Nicholas Cage as real-life police sergeant John McLoughlin, who was saved from the rubble of the Twin Towers. News of the movie deal broke in the Friday edition of Variety, the day after the London bombings. A studio insider has apparently admitted that the timing on this was not "ideal."
To say the least. Incidentally, I recall a lot of liberals in Hollywood whining about President Bush "exploiting" the 9/11 attacks for his own gain. So what exactly was Paramount doing greasing its press release with the blood of British citizens?
Aside from the timing, it should be obvious to anyone that this is the sort of material the avaricious Mr. Stone should be kept at least 100 miles from, by court order if necessary. Stone has been making a hash of history for over 20 years now, and his latest effort - the pitiful "Alexander" - is already regarded as one of the most spectacular failures in recent memory.
Fortunately, more sober heads are working on other 9/11 projects. NewsMax recently featured our interview with Cyrus Nowrasteh, who is writing ABC's forthcoming 9/11 miniseries. Cyrus' series promises to be not only fair, but dramatic and comprehensive in telling the story of what led over an 8-year period to the 9/11 attacks.
Newsmax and the conservative blogosphere deserve a lot of credit for raising the temperature around the Paramount boardroom on this one.
Let's turn up the heat on Paramount! Not another dime for Paramount until they can this project!
